Gamy (Marguerite Montaut ) Juvisy-Paris Hand colored (pochoir) lithograph, printed by Mabileau & Cie, Paris, France 1909. Condition: Fine (B+) some staining and foxing, not backed. Sheet size: 35.5 H. X 17.75 W. Marguerite Montaut (GAMY) beautifully commemorates Charles de Lambert's October 18 1909 historic aeronautic feat during the Grande Quinzaine de l'Aviation de Paris. Against the richly colored backdrop of the setting sun, Gamy gracefully depicts the wooden framed bi-plane gliding over the city of Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the distance De Lambert, flying a Wright Model A Flyer from the Juvisy Aerodrome, successfully flew a circular route around the Eiffel Tower at an estimated height of 1,300 feet, thus breaking the world altitude record. The flight lasted 49 minutes and 39 seconds, and covered approximately 30 miles. He was awarded a Gold Medal for his amazing accomplishment. The Gamy - Montaut prints began in the mid1890's when Ernest Montaut published his first motoring prints. By 1897, these prints began forming the pictorial record of auto racing in France. His wife, Marguerite subsequently joined him in his work. Together, they captured the exhilarating world of motorized racing, depicting the dare-devil feats, and chronicled the new records set. Their detailed lithographs deftly document the early history of the automobile and the evolution of flight. Their work can be found in Science Museum in London and in MIT's Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
