Biography of Jean Walther (1910-?)

Jean Walther was born and educated in Switzerland and apprenticed in Cassandre's studio. In 1932 he moved to Amsterdam where he designed and produced the publicity materials for the Royal Dutch Steamship Company (KNSM) and, as an employee of the Aneta agency, he designed posters for Esso. It is during this time his work shows the strong influence of Cassandre and Loupot.

In 1939, as war threatened, he moved to the United States. Here he was known as Gene Walter and was the co-founder of the Walter-Boland Associates in San Francisco.
